Funny Bones Whisky - Double Rum Finish
What do a comedian, a banker, and a master distiller have in common? Nope, not the start of a joke. (Okay, maybe just a little.)
What we really share is a love for three things: good times, gut-busting laughter, and seriously great single malt whiskey.
So we did what any reasonable people would do - teamed up and made our own whisky.
Introducing: Funny Bones Whiskey.
But behind every good joke there is a serious craft. Funny Bones begins life as Broken Bones Unpeated Twin Single Malt Whisky - distilled at Broken Bones distillery, using the same uncompromising standards that earned the distillery the title of Best Continental European Whisky in The Whisky Bible 2025/26.
What makes Funny Bones truly unique is its maturation journey. After initial maturation, the spirit spends more than a year in casks that previously held Broken Bones Rum - Slovenia's first rum. It begins in ex-bourbon barrels, where it absorbs the classic notes of vanilla, caramel and toasted oak that define great American whisky tradition. The journey then culminates in Slovenian oak casks, which previously held Broken Bones Rum, lending the spirit its final character: a rich layer of tropical sweetness, molasses and the distinct personality of Slovenia's native oak.
The result is a whisky that tells the story of two spirits, and two proud traditions, in one glass. And of three unlikely friends who refused to take themselves too seriously.
The journey took the spirit through four distinctive casks, each leaving its own indelible mark. Yet what you hold in your hands is something truly rare: a single cask whisky, with only 250 bottles ever filled. No two batches will ever be the same, and once these bottles are gone, this particular story ends forever. You are not simply holding a whisky. You could be holding one of only 250 chapters of a tale that will never be told again.

Tasting notes:
NOSE
A rich introduction in the glass reveals deep vanilla and caramel, interwoven with molasses - a legacy of the rum casks that lent the whisky their tropical soul. Dried raisins and toasted nuts follow, carrying a pleasant earthy warmth. In the background, dark berries emerge - blackberries and blackcurrant - with an additional freshness of discreet citrus acidity. Hints of roasted coffee and dark chocolate complete the depth, heralding the complexity that follows.
PALATE
On the palate, a surprising freshness of ripe apples appears first, balancing the richness that follows. Dark chocolate with a high cocoa content soon takes centre stage - smooth and rounded, interwoven with deep vanilla and molasses. The rum casks have lent the palate exceptional softness and roundness. Each sip develops slowly, revealing new layers.
FINISH
Long and elegant. Molasses returns as a recurring thread, long preserving the memory of the rum that once resided in these casks. Pomegranate joins in with its unique combination of sweetness and tartness. Aromatic spices — a hint of cardamom and dried ginger — lend the finish an exotic dimension. Vanilla gently rounds everything together, ensuring you set down the glass with a smile and a desire for the next sip.
